Very sad to hear of Johns passing… I remember his patience and kindness for the young green at the gills filmmaker who approached him for support. Our eventual award winning short film was made possible in part because of his generosity and kindness. I was shocked and saddened to hear about Johns passing. Even after leaving Lemac to return to the UK way back in 1994 Leamc and the guys I worked with always had a place in my heart.
John was a very generous and kind person who will be sorley missed.
My thoughts are with Sue and his family along with his extend ‘film’ family.

To my good friend JB as i knew him.

Your passing came to me as a complete shock and with deep sadness i write these words.

I had the pleasure to have met you back in 1995 when i was just starting my journey and career in the Film industry. Over the years your kindness, support and teachings have helped me beyond any thanks i could ever express correctly.

Thank you so much for having express a genuine interest in not just me, but so many other peoples lives in shaping careers and making us all better people.

You are much loved and will be sorely missed, thank you for all the fond memories.

At the ACS National Executive meeting held in Adelaide on May 1, it was decided unanimously that at all future ACS Awards presentations, the category TV STATION BREAKS & PROMOS would be named in honour of John. To that end, this category will now be named the “John Bowring ACS TV Station Breaks & Promos Award”.

In light of the many station promos John photographed so well the meeting felt this particular category, which John has won in the past, was an ideal one to carry his name into the future

The ACS executive wishes to pass on condolences on behalf of all our members to Sue, Jack & Kate. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

We will miss you JB.

His name and memory will be always be with us. You see John’s influence everywhere via his talent as a cinematographer, his understanding of the technical, and more than most, through the generosity he eagerly gave to the many who sought a helping hand to start out in this industry of ours. Not just here in Australia, but to a huge international community.

I have been moved by the contributions posted here and on other forums. John and I were in contact while he was away, and and I was so looking forward to following up on lots of things we’d discussed.

I am very sad to hear that John has passed away. John was a very good friend of mine, he always had an answer to all of my questions, he was a real encyclopedia in the cinematographic field. I will miss him a lot and will always remember his kindness.
